Safe v. Patriot...

Heard on NPR this morning: Some senators are trying to repeal parts of the Patriot Act via the Safe Act. In particular, the bit about the guv being allowed to look at people's library borrowing records.
Presumably to present a "balanced" story, a supporter of the current situtaion was allowed to defend this little bit of freedom theft by the guv thusly: some terrorist type was found to be using a public library computer to send email, because the hard disk is scrubbed after every user.
The SCLM was too dumb to reason out that: 1) The ability to secure library borrowing records wouldn't stop or even hinder that guy or guys like him and 2) however the hard disk is scrubbed after each user, the same technology could be used on privately owned PCs.
In short, it was a truly lame defense of a truly anti-American law, and NPR didn't point it out.
