Thanks to
Kevin Drum for pointing to
this.
I should point out that even though he provided the link, Kevin doesn't believe fraud explains the discrepancy between the exit polls and the vote count: There
must be some other explanation.
This is not a matter of evidence, he admits. On the one hand there has been no convincing evidence of fraud yet discovered, and on the other there has been no explanation from pollsters as to what went wrong with their polling methods. He figures that fraud on that scale would be just too hard to pull off. Ergo the polling methods were bad.
Maybe. But I would say-- just as we would say if this situation had developed anywhere else in the world-- that the discrepancy between the exit polling data and the vote count
is itself evidence of fraud.
I, too, don't
want to believe they could pull this off. But it seems to me that this is a case of "Who you gonna believe-- me or your lyin' eyes?" It's just not rational to decide that the evidence a crime has been committed should be thrown out because we don't know how the crime could have been committed.
The question, then, is: Why don't the Democrats want recounts everywhere and investigations of everything? And that's where we get into real tinfoil-hat territory. I'll work on that one later.
